The HKS Turbocharged Acura RSX Type-S took top honors in Car and Driver Magazine's 2003 Superfour Challenge front-wheel drive class. Car and Driver inivited the premier manufacturers of aftermarket performance parts to battle it out on the streets of Fontana, California and on California Speedway's race track to see who could deliver a "streetable" car that could also perform on track. The testing included street drivability, 1/4 mile, road course, 130-to-0-mph braking and total course time.
Sixteen manufacturers showed up to compete and were divided into two groups, front-wheel drive and rear-wheel/all-wheel drive. There were ten manufacturers competing in the front-wheel drive class including HKS. The team with the fastest total course time would be declared the winner (all of the tests except street drivability were integrate into each run on California Speedway). The HKS Turbocharged Acura RSX Type-S dominated the front-wheel drive class delivering a 132.7 sec total course time, 4.3 ticks faster then the nearest competitor. HKS also set the fastest 0-60mph time at 4.3 sec and received four stars in the street drivability; only two other cars in the class were able to receive such high marks during their street testing.
The HKS Acura RSX Type-S was equipped with a Prototype Turbo Manifold, GT2835 Ball Bearing Turbo, S-Type Intercooler, SSQV blow-off valve, EVC, Turbo Timer, Hi-Power Exhaust, Super Mega Flow Intake, Hipermax II Coilovers and Fcon VPro Engine Management.
